Sharing Data with Partners Using Resilio Connect
When your company works with external partners you often need to share digital assets such as visuals, movies, builds or any other data. Without Resilio Connect, you will face issues reliably sending and receiving this data when it becomes significant in size.
With the latest release of Resilio Connect (2.6), you will be able to transfer data to your partners efficiently and reliably while keeping your data secure and private.
Data exchange with partners using Resilio Connect is similar to internal data transfers. You provide your partners one or more Resilio Connect Agents that are connected to and controlled by your Management Console.
Like any other Connect Agent, the Agents installed at partner sites are added to Groups, associated with Jobs, and given read-only or read-write permissions to a set of folders.
As an administrator of the Management Console you will have control to approve each and every new partner Agent.
Only Agents that were provisioned by you can connect to your Management Console. Resilio Connect uses a bootstrap token for the initial connection of an Agent to the Management Console. The bootstrap token is a secret that a new Agent needs to have to be allowed to communicate with the Management Console, and be accepted as a trusted device.
All the communication and data transfers only happen between mutually authenticated entities. Resilio Connect Agents will only exchange data with Agents that were provisioned by the administrator of the Resilio Connect Management Console.
After the initial authentication, the Agent is assigned a unique authentication token that is used to identify this machine going forward.
Data transfer is end-to-end encrypted using session keys that ensure forward secrecy.
Agents, by default, must be manually added to Groups and Jobs in order to be part of any data exchange.
At any point in time, it is easy to remove an Agent from a data distribution job or completely remove an Agent from the system.
Adding & Removing Agents
Agents, by default, need to be manually added to Groups and Jobs in order to be part of any data exchange. As an administrator of the Management Console you will have the opportunity to manually approve each and every new partner Agent.
Once an Agent is removed from a Job (or removed from a Group associated with a Job), it no longer participates in any data transfers related to this Job.
You can also remove an Agent from your system by deleting it and changing the bootstrap token to prevent it from ever joining again.
Limiting Permissions of Partner Agents
Partners can chose to limit the Resilio Agent so it can only access certain folders on the host machine. This is done by limiting permissions of the user account running the Agent. Using this approach allows the partner’s IT team to predictably secure the Agent the same way they secure any other user in their organization, by setting security policies enforced by the operating system on the machines.
Distribution to Partners
You can distribute to partners, either via a Synchronization Job or a Distribution Job.
With a Synchronization Job, you can configure either a one-way or a two-way synchronization between your server and external partners. If you would like to have one-way synchronization, you assign read-write permission to the source Agents, and only give read-only permissions to all other Agents.
Receiving from Partners
For receiving from partners, we recommend using a Synchronization Job and assigning the partner read-write permission and your system read-only permission. This way you will receive data from partners without inadvertently being able to modify the data on their system.
Resilio Connect Archive functionality allows you to access older and deleted versions of the data. When a partner deletes a file, Resilio Connect moves it to an archive folder and keeps it there for a specified number of days (configurable).
Resilio Connect gives you flexibility, control, and visibility over all data transfers between your organization and external partners.
How our key features help you excel:
Speed Resilio Connect delivers the best possible transfer speeds using a powerful combination of the peer-to-peer communication, data deduplication, compression, and WAN optimization.
Ease of use Installation of Resilio Connect Agent is simple and painless. The Agent installation doesn’t require any technical skills or manual configuration. It also supports all popular platforms.
Partner facing UI You have the option to offer each partner a simple UI that shows folders, current data transfer progress, and transfer history. Or, you can choose to let partners interface with Connect without this UI, and just use the native file system.
Control & visibility You control all data transfers from the central Management Console. The Management Console defines where data goes and the permissions of each partner. It allows you to easily modify job parameters, including priorities and transfer speed and gives you complete visibility into the state of each transfer.
Guaranteed data delivery You will never need to re-transfer the data again in case of errors. Whenever a data transfer error occurs, Resilio Connect resumes from the last block transferred. Once the file is available, Resilio Connect verifies its checksum to guarantee there were no errors during the transfer. Resilio Connect never creates a corrupted file.
